Lifetime Furniture

The design of new housing in the UK is increasingly influenced by policy and guidance rather than by context and common sense.

Guidance such as Lifetime Homes, Secured by Design and Code for Sustainable Homes is intended to protect the baseline, but the limited scope for interpretation is giving rise to a new ‘architecture of control’ in which the nuances of bureaucracy are readily discernible.

Lifetime Furniture is intended to both highlight these nuances in new housing, while also providing a range of furniture that is perfectly suited to this emerging market. Based on the dotted ‘activity zone’ templates used by architects to ensure compliance with minimum space standards, a collection of rugs has been developed to suit the spaces that all new homes are guaranteed to provide.
